Jim Booz was named associate director of athletics for academic affairs at the University of Virginia in June of 2007. He spent the previous three years as associate director of athletics for compliance at Virginia. Before coming to UVa, he was a member of the athletics department staff at Vanderbilt since 1995 and served his last four years there as assistant athletics director for compliance.
As associate director of athletics for academic affairs, Booz is responsible for oversight and long-range planning in the academic affairs area, hiring and training staff, evaluating the program and designing its content, developing and implementing policy, and developing and managing the budget.
He participated in the Athletic Directors' Institute sponsored by the Division I-A Athletic Directors' Association in July of 2006.
Booz joined the Vanderbilt athletics department as an academic counselor for student-athletes in October of 1995 and continued in that role until July of 1998 when he was named director of eligibility and summer programs. He continued as an academic counselor after assuming his new responsibilities. He was named assistant athletics director for compliance in 2000.
Before working at Vanderbilt, Booz served as director of intramurals at his alma mater, the University of Tennessee at Martin.
Booz is a 1995 graduate of the UT-Martin with a bachelor's degree in physical education and a concentration in sports management. He earned his master's degree in higher education administration from Middle Tennessee State University in 1998.
He and his wife, Christine, have two children: Claire (7) and Maggie (4).
