Steve Flippen was named assistant director of athletics for compliance at Virginia in June of 2007. His responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operations of the compliance office and assisting in the development, implementation and monitoring of a comprehensive compliance program.
Flippen joined Virginia's athletics department staff in December of 2004 as director of compliance.
Prior to coming to UVa, Flippen was the director of compliance and student-athlete services at Winthrop for one year and the compliance coordinator at Northern Illinois for just over two years. He served as a graduate assistant/intern in the compliance office at Georgia from August of 1999 until June of 2001, and was a graduate intern in the business and finance office at North Carolina for one year. He also was a sports administration intern with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association from August of 1996 until May of 1998.
Flippen earned a bachelor's degree in physical education and sports sciences with a specialization in sports administration from North Carolina in May of 1998. He received a master's degree in sports management from Georgia in December of 2000.
Flippen is married to the former Kathryn Diack of Roswell, Ga.
