Joe Gardino has been a member of the Virginia Academic Affairs department since 2003. In that time he has worked to develop and implement services to address the needs of student athletes with learning disabilities and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders.
He also provides training to academic support staff, coaches and administration, developed the guidelines and procedures for the Athletic Department testing referral process and facilitates the student athletes' use of academic accommodations based on documentation from comprehensive assessments.
From 1999 to 2003 he worked as the Director of the Learning Resource Program for the Tandem Friends School in Charlottesville. In that capacity he provided a variety of individualized tutorial services for students with learning disabilities as well as for high performing students with no disabilities.
Gardino has a lengthy career as a learning disabilities teacher, special education teacher and educational consultant since graduating from Central Connecticut State in 1972. He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology. Gardino completed work on his master's degree in special education from Central Connecticut in 1976. He later earned his Certificate of Advanced Study from Fairfield with a Certification in Educational Administration and Supervision.
