Dr. Danny Mistry has served as co-medical director of Virginia's sports medicine program since June of 2003 and has served as a primary care physician for the Virginia athletics department for the last six years. He is also an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Department of Internal Medicine and the Curry School of Education at UVa.

Dr. Mistry joined the full-time athletics medical staff at Virginia after completing his residency training at the University of Virginia Health System. He was a resident in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation between June 1995 and June 1997 and in Internal Medicine between July 1997 and June 2002, during which time he spent three years as a research fellow in cardiovascular physiology. He also worked with the UVa athletics medical staff during his residency.

He received his doctor of medicine degree in 1986 from the University of Madras in Madras, India, and did residency training at Breach Candy Hospital in Bombay, India. Dr. Mistry also holds a master's degree in exercise science from the University of Massachusetts and is a certified athletic trainer and massage therapist.

From 1989 to 1994, Dr. Mistry served as an athletic trainer, exercise physiologist and science teacher at the Taft School in Watertown, Conn., while completing an ATC Internship. Between 1995 and 2002, he served as an assistant to the UVa team physician and as an athletic trainer and massage therapist for numerous Cavalier varsity teams.

Dr. Mistry has traveled with various men's and women's soccer U.S.A. national teams as an athletic trainer and massage therapist for the U.S. Soccer Federation. He is also a team physician for the U.S.A. Swimming and Diving teams. In June of 2007, Dr. Mistry spent two weeks as a team physician at the United States Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. As a team physician, Dr. Mistry was responsible for the medical care of all athletes, coaches and guests residing at the Olympic Training Center. He worked with athletes from several sports, including disabled athletes training for the Paralympics.

Dr. Mistry is a member of the American College of Physicians, American College of Sports Medicine and National Athletic Trainers' Association. He is actively involved in multidisciplinary sports medicine research, resident medical education and has written for sports medicine journals and textbooks.
