Jon Oliver is in his sixth year at Virginia. His primary responsibility is oversight of the day-to-day operations of the athletics department. Oliver is the administrative liaison for football and men's basketball and served as the athletics department point person for the John Paul Jones Arena project. The new multipurpose arena is the home of Virginia basketball and opened in the summer of 2006.

Before coming to UVa, Oliver spent the previous six years involved in various aspects of athletics administration at Washington State University. His final position at Washington State was associate athletics director for external affairs. He joined the WSU athletics department as a compliance intern in 1995 and later served as director of compliance, assistant athletics director for business and compliance, and associate athletics director for finance and facilities development at the school.

Oliver earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Boise State University in 1994 and his law degree from the University of Idaho School of Law in 1997.

Before pursuing an administrative career in intercollegiate athletics, Oliver owned and operated several businesses in his hometown of Boise, Idaho. In addition to his full-time work, Oliver was head boy's basketball coach for the AAU Idaho Select Team and assistant varsity boy's basketball coach at Boise High School.

Oliver played basketball at Boise State, serving as a team co-captain from 1983-85. He also received the team's Most Inspirational Award. Before attending college, he was a three-sport standout at Borah High School in Boise. He earned All-State recognition and was a McDonald's honorable mention All-American in basketball as a senior. He also was an All-Conference wide receiver on the football team and captured the state high jump championship as a senior. He was named to the Carnation All-America track and field team.

Oliver is a member of the University of Idaho Law School Advisory Board and the NCAA's Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee. He is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and the Black Coaches Association. He is a past president of the Idaho Sports Law Association and a former member of the Collegiate Athletic Business Managers Association.

He and his wife, November, have a son, Dante (6), and a daughter, Ariana (3).
