Keith VanDerbeek is in his 22nd year as an associate athletics director.

The scope of his duties encompasses planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the business operations of all UVa athletics department activities. His responsibilities include the supervision of the business operations staff and the manager of information systems, acting as financial adviser to the athletics director, and coordinating the implementation and management of the department's operating budget. In addition, he serves as the department's liaison to the University's audit, budget, financial administration, and procurement offices.

A native of Spring Valley, N.Y., VanDerbeek received a B.S. degree in economics and business from Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., in 1972 and an M.S. degree in accounting from UVa in 1977.

From 1972 to 1975, he served as credit analyst and auditor for the Chemical Bank of New York, investigating market and industry studies and compiling portfolio analysis. During his enrollment in graduate school at UVa, he taught introductory and cost accounting classes at the McIntire School of Commerce. In 1977, he was recruited as budget officer for the College of Arts and Sciences at UVa before becoming Virginia's athletics business manager in the fall of 1978.

He is a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers, the College Athletic Business Management Association, and the National Association of Accountants.

VanDerbeek has served on numerous University-wide committees, including: Air Travel Service Committee, Capital Project Planning Committee, Centralized Accounts Payable Project, Committee on Safety and Security, Committee on Women's Concerns, Computer Resource Allocation Committee, Dining Services RFP Selection Committee, Outstanding Awards Committee, Integrated Systems Project Advisory Committee, Administration Technology Council, and the University's Strategic Task Force for Athletics.

He and his wife, Pam, have two children: Kate and Peter.
