A member of the highly competitive Atlantic Coast Conference, the University of Virginia fields 12 intercollegiate sports for men and 13 for women. Over the past four years, the Virginia athletic teams have won 20 ACC titles, more than any other ACC school. Well known athletes such as Olympic gold medalists Ed Moses (swimming) and Dawn Staley (basketball), NFL stars Ronde and Tiki Barber, and NBA great Ralph Sampson, all were UVA student-athletes.

    HOW TO CONTACT A COACH

    If you do not see your sport listed on the athletics website, check the University of Virginia Intramural/Club Sports web page. You will find information on a wide variety of sports including badminton, cycling, dance, fencing, ice hockey, judo, tae kwon do, ultimate frisbee, rugby and water polo.

    RECRUITING BASICS

    The websites listed below will provide valuable information about the recruiting process.

    1. Learn how the NCAA oversees student-athlete eligibility here.
    2.Visit the National Letter Intent web site to better understand the "signing process.
    3.Access the UVA website for academic information to find information on classes, advising, majors, and tutoring.

    ADMISSIONS PROCESS AND DEADLINES

    Applying for Admission
    All prospective student-athletes are required to complete an Undergraduate Admissions application and go through the regular admissions process. An admissions application can be requested from the Undergraduate Admissions by calling (434.982.3200), fax (434.982.3587) or email (undergrad-admissions@virginia.edu. The application can also be completed on-line. If you are planning on signing a National Letter of Intent during the November or February signing periods, it is not recommended that you apply on-line.

    If you are interested in becoming a University of Virginia student we strongly encourage you to browse the Undergraduate Admissions website. You will learn more about the admissions process, recommended courses of study, and how applications are evaluated. A page of frequently asked questions (FAQ) has been established for your convenience.

    TEST SCORES
    All students are required to present an SAT I or ACT score as part of the admissions application. It is strongly recommended that all students take three SAT II Subject Tests in writing, math and a third test of their choosing. If you are planning to sign a November letter of intent, we strongly recommend that you begin testing during your junior year of high school.

    COMPLIANCE
    The NCAA rules are complex and ever changing. This compliance section provides basic information on NCAA rules everyone should know, including specific information for boosters, recruits, and current student-athletes. A more in-depth reference is the NCAA web site at www.ncaa.org.

    FINANCIAL AID
    Whether you are interested in athletic scholarships, University financial aid, or federal and state grants, the financial aid section (www.virginia.edu/~finaid/) will provide the information you need. You will find explanations for each type of financial aid, along with links for more information and applications.

    Prospective Student-Athlete Online Form

    If you are interested in competing in intercollegiate athletics for the University of Virginia, please complete the following form and submit it to the athletic program in which you are interested in participating. This form is NOT an official university application. Please be aware that this is not a secure form.

    For general correspondence, you can also use the Coaches E-mail address page.

    It is important to know that NCAA rules and regulations prohibit coaches and administrative personnel from sending letters or electronic mail to high school students until after September 1 of their junior year in high school. While coaches and administrators are not permitted to write or e-mail you according to the above restriction, you are permitted to telephone coaches and administrators without restrictions.

    Those who are freshmen or sophomores in high school are also permitted to contact the admissions office for information regarding the University of Virginia and its academic programs. You may call our admissions office at (434) 982-3200 or go to our admissions site at www.virginia.edu.

    WARNING: If you are a student-athlete enrolled at another four-year institution or if you have been enrolled at another four-year institution in the last year (Division I, II or III), NCAA rules and regulations strictly prohibit us from having any communication with you, directly or indirectly, until that institution grants our institution permission to contact you. You may obtain this permission to contact at the compliance office of your current or previous institution.
