Chip Kline begins his second season as an assistant coach at the University of Virginia. His responsibilities include coaching the sprinters, coordinating all recruiting for both teams, and assisting with the design of the dryland and weight training programs.
Kline joined the Cavalier coaching staff in August of 2005 after serving as an assistant coach at Tennessee for five seasons. His knowledge of the Atlantic Coast Conference and Southeast Conference will play a critical part in his role as a member of UVa's coaching staff.
Kline was a member of Tennessee's coaching staff from 2000-01 through the 2004-05 season. While at Tennessee, Kline helped coach an NCAA champion in the 100 backstroke, two NCAA runner-up relays, seven SEC champions, and a 200 medley relay that set the American record.
Prior to coaching at Tennessee, Kline was a member of the coaching staff at North Carolina State for four seasons and served as associate head coach. He coached the Wolfpack's 200 medley relay that set an ACC record as well as five ACC champions.
Kline swam for two years at East Carolina University. He graduated from ECU in 1992 with a degree in communictions.
Kline began his swim coaching career in 1995-96 as assistant coach at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa. The past four years Kline has also served as the head coach of Tennessee Aquatics, a United States Swimming club team based in Knoxville, Tenn.
In 1995, Kline earned a master's degree in exercise science from Tennessee while simultaneously serving as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach for the Vols for two years. Kline also received a master's in athletics administration from Ohio University in 1993.
