Brian Anderson enters his second season as the volunteer assistant coach for the Cavaliers, where he will work with the catchers as well as serve as the first base coach and coordinate UVa Baseball camps.
Anderson assisted hitting coach Kevin McMullan in guiding the Cavalier hitters to finish 19th nationally in batting average (.322). UVa set school records in total hits, RBI and total bases. He coached the Virginia catchers, which managed a pitching staff that finished third nationally in team ERA (3.04) and set school records in strikeouts (519), overall wins (47) and conference wins (21) while leading the ACC in team ERA. UVa catchers only had four passed balls in 2006, while opponents only stole 43 bases in 62 attempts.
Prior to Virginia, Anderson served as an assistant coach at Marist for two years and helped guide the Red Foxes to the 2005 MAAC Tournament Title and a trip to the 2005 NCAA Baseball Tournament. Anderson has also served as a volunteer assistant at George Mason. That year, he worked with the catchers, coached first base, and was the assistant hitting coach.
Anderson played his collegiate baseball at George Mason, serving as the starting catcher for all four of his seasons, 1998-2002. He ranks among Mason's top-10 in eight categories, including games played, seventh with 194, and he ranks 10th, with 175 games started. He also ranks among George Mason's all-time bests in hits, at-bats, homeruns, triples, total bases, and RBI.
After his graduation from George Mason, with a bachelor's degree in communications, Anderson signed as a free agent with the Montreal Expos. He spent the 2002 season with the Vermont Expos, playing in the New York Penn League.
