James Molinari is entering his first season at the University of Virginia after serving as an assistant coach at East Carolina University in 2003. Molinari graduated from ECU in 2000 with a degree in Communications. He will work defensively with the outfielders and assist Kevin McMullan with the offense.
Molinari spent the last three years playing professional baseball for both the River City Rascals and Gateway Grizzlies of the Independent Frontier League. Prior to his pro career, he played outfield for East Carolina in 1999 and 2000. In his two years at ECU, Molinari helped the Pirates to back-to-back conference championships and two #1 regional seeds in the NCAA Tournament. He earned First Team All-Conference honors in 2000, as well as being voted the best defensive outfielder by Baseball America.
Before arriving at East Carolina, Molinari played two seasons at Chabot Community College in Hayward, California. In his second season at Chabot, Molinari earned Junior College All-American honors and was named Conference Player of the Year.
Molinari is single and resides in Palmyra, Va.
