Steve Seymour is in his third year as an assistant coach in the University of Virginia men's basketball program. Seymour was an assistant coach at LaSalle University for one year before coming to Virginia.
Prior to coaching at LaSalle, he was an assistant coach on Rob Lanier's staff at Siena College for three years. Siena won a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament Championship, and participated in the NCAA Tournament and the National Invitation Tournament during Seymour's time on the coaching staff.
He coached at Drexel University from 1991-2001, the last two years as head coach. The Dragons compiled a 28-29 record in Seymour's two seasons as head coach, including a 21-15 record in the America East Conference. The previous eight seasons, Seymour was Bill Herrion's top aide as Drexel posted a 134-47 record. During that time, the Dragons won three consecutive America East championships and participated in three NCAA Tournaments. Drexel upset Memphis in the first round of the 1995 NCAA Tournament.
"With Steve, we've got an individual with great experience who has proven he can effectively help any program," said Virginia head coach Dave Leitao. "As a former head coach, he brings a mentality that definitely benefits the kids in our program."
Seymour began his coaching career as an assistant coach at St. Anselm College (N.H.) for three years. The Hawks played in the NCAA Division II Tournament two of those years.
A native of Rockland, Mass., Seymour is a 1981 graduate of Bridgewater State College (Mass.) with a bachelor's degree in physical education.
Seymour and his wife, Doreen, have three children - two sons and a daughter.
