WORTH NOTING: Came a long way during his career and
worked hard to become an outstanding tackle by the end
of his career … didn’t see much action his first three years
in the program, but worked hard to improve his strength
and footwork … the extra work paid off as he was a very
valuable two-year starter at right tackle … also played
guard and left tackles at times during his career, especially
in 1999 … one of the biggest players in school history.
HONORS: 1999—Honorable mention All-ACC … winner of
the Speed Elliott Award given annually to UVa’s most
improved player … ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week
following Virginia’s win over N.C. State (Oct. 16).
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
2000—One of the team’s captains … played with a bad
back throughout most of the season … the injury, while
painful, caused him to miss only the North Carolina game
… started all 11 games in which he played at right tackle,
including the O’ahu Bowl vs. Georgia … helped pave the
way for Antwoine Womack to become a 1000-yard rusher
and the ACC’s leading rusher … it marked the third sea-son
in a row a UVa player led the conference in rushing
and rushed for more than 1000 yards.
1999—Started all 12 games at right tackle, turning in a
very steady year … was team’s most consistent grader
during the season according to line coach Paul Schudel …
helped clear the way for record-setting tailback Thomas
Jones … UVa featured a balanced offense, averaging
191.5 yards rushing and 211.0 yards passing per game …
it was the second year in a row Virginia averaged more
than 400 yards of total offense per game.
1998—Backup at right guard who saw action in eight
games behind starter Fady Chamoun … played against
Auburn, Maryland, Clemson, Duke, San Jose State, Wake
Forest, Florida State and North Carolina ... in uniform but
did not play against Georgia Tech, N.C. State, Virginia
Tech and Georgia in the Peach Bowl … also saw action on
the field goal and extra point teams.
1997—Played in seven games (Auburn, Richmond, North
Carolina, Wake Forest, Duke, Florida State and Maryland)
as a reserve offensive lineman … in uniform but did not
play against Clemson, Georgia Tech, N.C. State and
Virginia Tech … primarily backed up starter Fady
Chamoun at right guard … also saw some action at offen-sive
tackle.
1996—Red-shirted … did not see any game action …
dressed against Maryland, N.C. State, North Carolina and
Miami in the Carquest Bowl.
