Rich Yahner is in his first season as a graduate assistant coach at Virginia. He will work with the Cavalier defensive coaches. In 2005, Yahner worked for his alma mater- Penn State- as a quality control volunteer. For two years he has worked at Tyrone Area High School in Tyrone, Pa., as the co-defensive coordinator. His previous collegiate coaching includes a stint at Lehigh from 2000 to 2002 as an assistant coach where he coached linebackers and was the assistant video coordinator.
Yahner was a graduate assistant at Clarion in 1999 where he served as the inside linebackers coach.
Yahner graduated from Penn State in 1999 with a degree in rehabilitation services. He is currently completing work on his masters in counselor education. As an undergraduate he worked on the Penn State football staff as a student assistant from 1996 to 1998. He assisted the defensive coaching staff and worked with the graduate assistant coaches in film breakdowns.
Following his graduation from Penn State, Yahner worked as a consultant/research assistant at Asplundh Tree Company in Philadelphia.
