WORTH NOTING: Tremendous athlete ... could switch to midfield in 2001 ... has started 31 consecutive games in goal over the last two seasons, the longest streak by a Cavalier goalie since James Ireland started 44 straight from 1992-94 ... performed under tremendous pressure as a freshman in 1999 ... got better throughout the season ... poised, confident athlete ... very active outside the cage … became first freshman goalie to win the national title since Johns Hopkins’ Quint Kessenich in 1987.

AT VIRGINIA: 2000—Had a very solid year, but didn’t get the credit he deserved … finished second in the nation in goals-against average at 7.47 goals per game … one of only four goalies in the country to allow fewer than eight goals per game … overall, Virginia was fifth nationally, allowing just 8.20 goals per game, its lowest mark since 7.20 in 1986 … didn’t face a lot of shots because of the play of his defensemen—Ryan Curtis, Mark Koontz, Peter Ragosa, Richard Reid and Court Weisleder … 108 saves, an average of 7.20 per game … reached double figures in saves in three of the first five games, but had only one double-digit performance after that … 10 saves in the opener vs. Syracuse as UVa fell in overtime … 11 saves to key a big win over Princeton the next week … 10 saves against Johns Hopkins … eight saves in the finals of the ACC Tournament against Maryland … came up big in the win over Duke in the national quarterfinals … recorded a season-high 12 saves and turned back three point-blank one-on-one attempts in the third quarter as the Cavaliers allowed just one goal despite being on defense most of the quarter ... lettered. 1999—Earned the starting nod in the preseason and remained in the lineup the rest of the way … first rookie to start in goal for Virginia since Brian Gregory in 1979 … 14th nationally in goals-against average (second among rookies) with an 8.87 mark … recorded 139 saves with a high of 15 in the NCAA semifinals vs. Johns Hopkins … corralled 67 ground balls … recorded 13 saves in his debut at Syracuse in the season opener … added 10 in win over Princeton, including six in the fourth quarter, as UVa held off the defending national champions in the next game … 10 saves vs. Duke in the ACC Tournament finals, including two in the final 20 seconds to preserve Virginia’s 8-7 win … was dynamic in the NCAA Tournament … had more saves than goals allowed in all three games as Virginia claimed the title … 13 saves in the quarterfinals vs. Delaware tied his career high at the time … topped that performance with 15 saves in the semifinals vs. Johns Hopkins ... stopped 12 shots in the championship game win over Syracuse … named to the NCAA All-Tournament team ... lettered.
