Charlottesville, VA - Former University of Virginia men's lacrosse standout Conor Gill, of the Boston Cannons, recently earned Rookie of the Year honors. Based on votes submitted by the General Manager and Head Coach of each of the six MLL teams, the award was presented at the 2002 MLL Awards Luncheon at the Crowne Plaza in downtown Columbus, Ohio, host city of the 2002 MLL Championship Game.

During his first pro season, Gill, the third overall pick in the first round of the 2002 MLL draft, made an immediate impact on the Cannons by finishing third on the team in points. The rookie attackman collected season totals of 20 goals, 16 assists, 36 points, and 30 groundballs, making most of his contributions over the latter half of the season.

"Conor was great for us down the stretch," said head coach Scott Hiller. "He emerged as one of our best offensive players. He's the type of player that can do it all, whether it's scoring, passing or playing on the ride. Conor is definitely the right choice for this season's MLL Rookie of the Year."

Gill was a three-time All-American at UVa who finished his collegiate career tied for second in assists (146) and seventh in career points (223) in ACC history.
