Mike McGinty enters his eighth season with the University of Virginia men's soccer program. In 2004, McGinty was promoted to the head assistant coach position after serving as an assistant from 2000-03. McGinty spent his first two years on the staff working as a volunteer assistant before moving into an assistant position in 2000. His duties include scouting, assisting in the day-to-day running of practices and working with the goalkeepers. He currently has his USSF "A" coaching license.

McGinty has also served as goalkeeper coach for the Soccer Organization of Charlottesville-Albemarle. In 1997-98, he was the goalkeeper coach for the Virginia Olympic Development Program.

McGinty received his bachelor's degree in psychology from Wake Forest University in 1995. Following graduation, he served as an assistant coach at WFU from 1995-96. McGinty was a three-year starting goalkeeper at Wake Forest, earning Second-Team All-ACC honors as a sophomore in 1992. McGinty holds WFU school records for shutouts in a season (9) and a career (18.5). He ranks second in Wake Forest history in career saves, and third in goals allowed average and save percentage.

Following his collegiate career, McGinty played professionally for nine seasons in Europe and in the United States. He retired from Major League Soccer to work full time with UVa.

McGinty and his wife Jasmin have two children, a son, Sean and a daughter, Arin.
