Q: This weekend, the team travels to your hometown of Dallas for the SMU tournament. How excited are you for the trip?

JV: Extremely excited. I am looking forward to it. I have a lot of family coming to the games so it should be a pretty good atmosphere.

Q: So you are expecting a lot of Cavalier fans in attendance this weekend?

JV: Definitely. I am trying to make sure I know of everyone who is coming so I can get them on the guest list.

Q: You know some of players at SMU from playing with and against them at the club and high school level. What do you expect from Friday's game?

JV: SMU is a really talented team. Last year, they had a great regular season but got upset in the tournament. They have a lot of players back from that team and are going to be a very, very good squad this year. It should be a good game on Friday.

Q: The Cavaliers are coming off a pair of shutout wins to open the season. How do you rate the team's performance so far this season?

JV: It has been pretty positive. We have a good squad this year. We have a lot returning guys and our hope is to build on what we did last season.

Q: How much of a change will it be this weekend, playing on the road for the first time?

JV: There no better way to improve than to get on the road and play good teams in a hostile environment. I am looking forward to it.

Q: Last year, you were one of only a couple first-years to see a lot of playing time. This year, you are one of six returning starters. How has your role changed this year?

JV: I am trying to get the ball more in the middle and run the offense more. We have a lot of talented guys out there, so it is just a matter of getting everyone involved.

Q: How much did you learn about college soccer (the level of play, the environment, etc.) last year, and how does having a season under your belt help you this year?

JV: It was a tough transition last year from club and high school to college. I definitely learned a lot as the season went on and became more comfortable. Hopefully that will help me this year.
