WASHINGTON, D.C. - Virginia men's tennis player Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) received a wildcard spot in the main draw of this week's Legg Mason Tennis Classic at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington. Devvarman will open play on Tuesday as he plays Edgardo Massa of Argentina in a first round match.

Devvarman, who is entering his junior year at Virginia, was a 2006 ITA All-American, as he reached the NCAA Singles final and finished the year ranked No. 8 in the collegiate rankings.

Over the weekend, fellow Cavalier Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) competed in the qualifying draw of the event. He won his first match, downing Guillaume Tarralle of France 6-4, 7-6. In his second qualifying match, Huey fell to Jan-Michael Gambill, who has been ranked as high as No. 14 in the world, but is currently returning from an injury which kept him out of action for eight months.

The event is part of the U.S. Open Series, which features ten events throughout the United States and Canada during the six weeks prior to the U.S. Open. The field for this year's Legg Mason Tennis Classic is highlighted by James Blake, Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewitt, and Andre Agassi.
