Gina Sambus joins the Cavalier staff after spending four years on the field wearing the orange and blue. A team captain in 2002, Sambus was a second team All-American and earned All-Conference honors that season as well.
In 2002 Sambus led the team with 84 ground balls, which ranked fourth nationally and led the ACC. That season total ranks 6th all-time for a single season at UVa and gives her 236 for her career, which ranks 7th all-time at UVa.
She also had a team-high 44 caused turnovers, which ranked 19th nationally and led the ACC. It is also the fourth highest single-season total at Virginia and places her 2nd all-time career caused turnovers with 107.
Sambus ranked 4th in 2002 with 28 draw controls, which gives her 101 for her career and plach 6th all-time at Virginia.
