Hershey Strosberg enters his sixth season as an assistant coach at Virginia. He came to Charlottesville in the spring of 2001 and began working with the Cavaliers as a volunteer assistant. His primary duties include coaching the field players and serving as the recruiting coordinator.
Since coming to Virginia, the Cavaliers have had one of the most successful periods in school history. The team has a 77-25-11 record, won the school's first ACC Championship, and finished in the top ten nationally four times.
Strosberg came to Virginia after serving as an assistant at SUNY-Cortland in Cortland, N.Y., for two seasons. While at Cortland, he helped the team to a top-24 finish in Division III in consecutive seasons. Strosberg also serves as a U.S.Y.S.A. Region I staff and coaches the U-14 regional team.
In 1997, he was an assistant coach for the boys' varsity team at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, N.Y. He also served as head coach of the freshman and assistant with the varsity teams at Niskayuna High School from 1991-93.
Strosberg played professionally for the Albany Alleycats of the USISL from 1996-98. He represented the United States at the 1997 Maccabiah Games in Israel, and was an alternate in 1993. Collegiately, he played at Cortland State in 1995-96 and was a Regional All-American selection in 1995. He helped the team as a player/coach in 1996 while recovering from an ACL injury.
Strosberg received a B.S. in physical education from SUNY-Cortland in 1997. He also earned a Master's degree in physical education from SUNY-Cortland in 1999. He holds an "A" and National Youth coaching licenses from U.S. Soccer, as well as the NSCAA Premier Diploma.
