After a standout four-year career as a player at Virginia, Erin Horn has turned in her glove for a clipboard. Horn will serve as a volunteer assistant coach for UVa during the 2007 season.
Horn received her bachelor's degree in psychology with high distinction from UVa in May of 2006 after an excellent four-year career.
Horn holds Virginia's career records with nine saves and 145 pitching appearances. She also ranks among the Cavaliers' all-time leaders in several other pitching categories. She is third in strikeouts (676) and games started (89), fourth in wins (61) and innings pitched (645.2), sixth in complete games (54) and tied for sixth in shutouts (11).
Horn has a pair of no-hitters to her credit. She tossed her first no-hitter on April 20, 2005 against George Washington. Her second no-hitter came on Feb. 26, 2006 against Maine and earned Horn the first Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week award of her career.
In her first two seasons as a `Hoo in 2003 and 2004, Horn notched a pair of 17-win seasons. She posted a winning record in the circle all four years and concluded her career with a record of 61-44 with a 2.35 ERA.
In 2006, Horn had 13-12 record while registering a career-best 2.03 ERA and notching four of her school record nine saves. She also found a second home in left field and started 31 games in the outfield. Horn was named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State Second Team in 2006. She earned VaSID All-State First Team accolades in 2004.
Horn, who served as a team captain in 2006, also excelled in the classroom. She was a four-time ACC Academic Honor Roll selection and was also named to the inaugural All-ACC Academic Softball Team.
Horn was offered the unique opportunity to continue her softball career after graduation by playing for the Russian National Team. She spent three months during the summer of 2006 living in Tuchkovo, Russia, just outside of Moscow, and playing for Caroussel 1-Bosco Sport, the top team in Russia. She helped lead the team to the Russian Championship as well as titles at the Governor's Cup and a European Cup.
